Must Read Monday (9)

Fans of Fiction
Must Read Monday is a new meme hosted by Jenna at Fans of Fiction. The idea is to create an acrostic poem about a book in the chosen category of the week.
This week’s category: Favourite self-published book

Summer camp is definitely not Riley's
Idea of fun, especially since she's a
XV-year-old city girl. Her parents are

Making her attend camp
Only so they can divorce with her
Out of the way.
Now she's being bullied,

She's homesick, and
Unfortunately has been bitten by a
Monster - a werewolf. Riley
Must find a way to
Escape the monster within her before it
Ruins her chances at a normal life.

This week I chose S.M. Reine's debut novel, Six Moon Summer. This is a really great book and series. I actually liked the second book, All Hallows' Moon, more than the first, but I chose to use the first so I didn't have to worry about spoilers. Reine's writing is really great. The way she writes the transformations from human to wolf are incredibly descriptive, that it hurt me when reading sometimes. If you're a fan of werewolf stories, like I am, I definitely recommend this one!

Six Moon Summer is currently on sale for $0.99 USD on Amazon! I highly recommend picking it up!

This week’s category: An amazing controversial/banned book

When his parents
Are killed in a
Terrible car accident, Jacob
Escapes the pain of
Reality by hopping on a circus train.

Full of loss and sorrow, he
Opts to join the circus and
Receives the position of vet to the

Exotic animals. While
Labouring through the Depression, they acquire an
Elephant, believing it will save their
Poor show from collapsing. With a
Hateful ring-leader,
And untimely love, this
Novel will
Teach you the
Secrets of love and trust.

Water for Elephants is one adult novel that I absolutely love. I'm not sure why it's banned/challenged other than what it says in Books Challenged or Banned in 2010-2011 by Robert P. Doyle, which states that a parent at a high school complained about it's sexual content. It's not really a teen book, especially because of the violence towards animals, but the sexual content isn't that strong. I doubt my acrostic made that much of an impression, but it's an amazing book that I definitely recommend!

This week’s category: A book with a wonderful ending

Thisby is an island
Haunted by
Evil, flesh-eating water horses. The

Season of Fall brings the
Capaill uisce
Out of the ocean.
Racers catch and train the
Predatory horses
In an attempt to win money and
Overall bragging rights. Native

Residents on Thisby, Puck Connolly
And Sean Kendrick race for their own
Complicated reasons.
Except there can only be one winner.
So let the races begin.

This is probably my favourite acrostic that I've written for this meme. When I decided to write about Maggie Stiefvater's first stand-alone novel, THE SCORPIO RACES, the whole thing just came to me and it was really easy to write. I'm so happy it actually turned out well! I chose this because Maggie's novels tend to be open-ended and the reader can make their own conclusions about the future of the characters. And so, in my mind, the ending is beyond fantastic and definitely a happily-ever-after. I hope you like it :). Let me know in the comments.

This week’s category: Best rainy day read

Somewhere on
Tiny Nantucket Island,
A girl and boy meet, and she almost
Rips his head off.
Cursed to be starcrossed lovers,
Reliving an
Old tragedy, Helen and Lucas learn
Secrets of her past, while her
Saftey becomes his main concern.
Even with the Fates against them, they are
Destined to be together.

My acrostic this week is inspired by Josephine Angelini's STARCROSSED. I read this in the summer and fell in love with it. It's a perfect Rainy Day Read because it's one you won't want to put down! So take the whole day and sit inside reading! Why bother going out in the rain? You'll definitely like this book if you like Greek and Roman mythology. It's Helen of Troy meets Romeo and Juliet.

This week’s category: A book that made you laugh out loud

Hardly by choice,
Alex is back at the Covenant, the
Last place she can call home.
Friendships are reclaimed, and new
-
Bonds will be formed.
Laughter will fill the room,
Only because
Of Alex's sarcasm that will
Drive you to a fit of giggles.

I chose Jennifer L. Armentrout's HALF-BLOOD this week. I really liked Jennifer's writing and the character she created in Alex. The sarcastic comments that come out of Alex's mouth always make me laugh. But this story also has a lot of intense moments, both in action and romance. Definitely a great book by a debut author.

I finally got a chance to write another acrostic for this meme! I hope you enjoy it :)

The secret daughter of a
Hidden world, Meghan Chase learns
Everything is not as it seems.

In minutes, her brother's
Room becomes a portal, and
Only her best friend dares take her to the
Nevernever.

Kisses that are forbidden,
Insecurity around every corner, yet Meghan must save
Nevernever before it is
Gone forever.

I chose Julie Kagawa's The Iron King this week. This is the first book in The Iron Fey series. I just read it this past summer and loved it. I bought the second book, The Iron Daughter, right away. But of course, I haven't read it yet. I'm really excited to get back to the Nevernever, though!

Lena is haunted by

Romance blossoms,
Infections of amor deliria nervosa

I chose Lauren Oliver's Delirium this week. It is also a dystopian, but has a huge romantic concept, since the basis of the book is that love is a disease. It is an amazing book. Definitely a favourite.

OH. WOW. I did not give myself an easy one this week! I had to pull on every creative string in my body to get this out of me! Ha.

I used Maggie Stiefvater's Wolves of Mercy Falls Trilogy. These are my absolute favourite paranormal books, so of course I had to use them! I tried to make each one relevant to each book without spoilers, and actually have it make sense. I think I did a pretty good job!

I used Lauren DeStefano's WITHER for my first MRM post. It's an awesome book, definitely one of my favourite dystopians. You can read my review here.
